For the contest dilemma, I think I would give the prize to the relative if he/she is the best. It doesnt matter what others think, you should do your duty. Of course, you should have never been a judge in a contest where your relatives are participating in the first place.
Captain's example is a much harder question (its a classic ethical dilemma). - 10:11 PM

>>Will I be able to think rationally and keeping my emotions..
keeping emotions is not equivalent to being irrational.. . but yes i get ur point.
whatever i say now probably is meaningless becoz as said.. it is easier to think when u r not under pressure. i will choose watever my brain says is right at that time.
and captain did the right thing according to me. - 10:13 PM

@Bhav
I agree with you...but sometimes your emotions are in the way of rationality...thts when u need to control them...
What if ur brain didnt give u the right answer and then u have to repent whole life for one split second decision? - 10:18 PM

You are right...... mental stability is needed to tackle such delemmas......
My reply would be...... give it to the most derserving person..... coz its waste to care for what people say...... be it your relatives or rest of the world......
Thats my attitude and opinion. - 11:09 PM

i ddnt say that i will not REPENT the decision. i will ... definitely i will.. these are choices to choose the lesser evil deed.
like if i was the captain if i had the guts enuff to do the right thing like what the captain did... then also i would have repented my decision.. and i think captain repented his also..
in the split second of time i am not doubtful about the correct decision..atleat this will not be the bigger problem.. i have a good brain i think i will b able to decide.. it is the courage abt which i m bothered. i dont have that much of courage... - 12:52 AM

To do or not to...hmm... the best way is to think outward, and not to allow any bondings(relationships etc) to come into play while judging. Having said that its again a matter of personal thinking and slef-discipline that will allow you to think that way...
As far as the Captain's case is concerned , my thoughts are somewhat like this - agreed that he saved quite sme lives BUT he had no right to kill anyone
Advice : The best way to deal with such situations is - trying to be as reasonable and fair as possible - atleast even if it ends up as a mistake we would know we tried to be correct..

The captain could have prevented the trial by joining the 22 people he forced off the boat. He could then save one more life. He and the other 22 would forever be remembered as martyrs.
But it seems he did the right thing. The 6 people had a better chance of surviving with someone as experienced like the captain guiding them. All 7 survivors have a huge responsibility to prove they deserved to live...they must now earn it. - 11:43 PM
